Major Firms Highlight Multi Million-Pound Opportunities for Tees Valley Businesses

Senior figures from Atlantic SuperConnection and innogy Renwables UK will be the keynote speakers at the Tees Engineering Network (TEN) breakfast briefing, which is expected to be attended by more than 100 companies.

Atlantic SuperConnection is looking to lay a 930-mile undersea cable to carry electricity from Iceland to the UK.

Three potential sites have been shortlisted in the North East for a high-tech manufacturing hub.

The £3billion scheme could drive millions of pounds into the Tees Valley supply chain and provide a huge boost to the region’s businesses.

Energy company innogy Renewables UK, will also brief the local engineering sector on their Sofia Offshore Wind Farm. Developed 165 km off the coast of the North East of England, it will generate up to 1.2 gigawatts, making it their largest project to date.

Tees Engineering Network was set up in 2013 to support the region’s engineering supply chain by keeping businesses informed of new opportunities and provide a forum for networking. It is led by Francis Brown Ltd, Axiom Engineering Associates Ltd, and Industrial Marine Hydraulics Ltd with support from the Tees Valley Combined Authority.

Business bosses interested in hearing more about what the scheme could deliver can attend the free event, at 8 a.m. on Friday 29th June at the Redcar Community Heart.

Atlantic SuperConnection CEO Andrew Hodgson said:”No matter where we locate our manufacturing site, it’s fantastic news for Tees Valley. The top-quality engineering firms in the region are the linchpin of the potential supply chain and we are delighted to make clear how we can work together to benefit the Tees Valley economy and the wider UK. We have aggressive timescales that we’re working towards and we’re keen to brief the local supply chain of our plans at an early stage.”

Glyn Jones, innogy Renewables UK’s Senior project Manager for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm added: “We’ve got some considerable projects in the pipeline and need Tees Valley firms with the expertise to help us deliver. This event will be an excellent chance to understand how we operate, the value we can bring to the area and what we are looking for from suppliers.”

Jamie Brown, CEO of Francis Brown Ltd, said:”We set this network up to champion our local engineering supply chain because we know this area has the capabilities to deliver. These huge projects will offer huge opportunities for companies in our region. I’d urge local engineering firms to come along and see first-hand what’s on offer.”

This event has been sponsored by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.
